Music is Necessary.

Necessary Vice is the musical home of bassist and composer Joe Belson.

Joe grew up just outside New York City, where an early love of music led him from trumpet to bass guitar by age 11. Dedicated to rock n roll, he performed at CBGB's, The Vans Warped Tour, and then in many bands across the Bay Area.

Shifting interests in jazz and classical led Joe to embrace the upright bass, playing in local ensembles and earning a degree from The California Jazz Conservatory.

Joe began the Necessary Vice imprint with the release of Adventure by Bo Jelson in 2022. It has since supported all of his musical ventures, functioning as both an independent label and publisher.
